Industry is the wit of man to solve problems. He believes men need "overwhelming power" or "overpowering ability" in order to keep everyone quiet. Hobbes then goes on to discuss the three causes of quarrel, claiming they are competition, diffidence, and glory. He also describes how all men have potential, but it is up to a man's knowledge to make his potential a reality. Man is forced to get out of natural/God given strength and into pure chaos. However, nature is the art of God, so because men's natural state is war, he is implying something about God.

Chapter 13 of the Leviathan In chapter 13, Hobbes claims that men's natural state is in war. Looking at the Roman Penny reference, Charles I would resemble Christ and parliament would resemble Judas, the sinner. He connects to the stories of Julius and Brutus and the Roman Penny because they are both stories of high treason. He believes imagination is the ability to retain information based on our physical/daily experiences and transform them into memories. Hobbes himself was an empiricist which means he derived his theories based on experiences or senses. First part of the Leviathan In the first portion of the Leviathan, Hobbes concludes that imagination is a fundamental human quality. He is said to have uttered "A great leap in the dark" as he died. What caused Hobbes's death? He suffered from a bladder disorder, as well as from a paralytic stroke.
